Children’s Ministry

Connie Bruhn, Coordinator of Children & Youth Ministries

We have “Children’s Moment” during our first service, where your children come up front to hear a 5 minute topic or skit. All children are then escorted to Sunday school classes. Ages birth through 11 years old meet in their own classrooms in the Guthrie building, divided up by: birth to 3 years old, 6 to 8 years old and 9 to 12 years old.

Sunday School Classes

CITD has Sunday School during our first service for ages birth through 11 years old, youth Sunday school for 12 through 19 years old and an young adult class serving 20 years old to 30+.

Safe Sanctuary is a program in place to protect your children. We do have pagers which vibrate if your child needs you. Just sign out a pager and bring it back when you sign out your child.

Safe Sanctuaries Guidelines**

What we do to keep children safe on our campus.

As Christians and United Methodists, we are concerned for the care and well-being of the children and youth in our care. It is critical that we model best practices for the care and protection of these children and youth in our meetings and events. In order to do so, we will operate with the following guidelines for their health and safety while participating in programs and meetings of Cross in the Desert United Methodist Church.
The goal of these guidelines is threefold:
  • To prevent abuse from happening to the children and youth in our care
  • To prevent false allegations of abuse against individuals and the church
  • To enable staff and volunteers to recognize and report suspected abuse
There is no one thing that we can do to prevent the abuse of the children and youth in our care. A multi-pronged approach that includes annual training and continual practice will provide the best results.
